Living With Type 1 Diabetes
Type 1 diabetes is a disease where the pancreas does not produce the hormone insulin, which helps the body to manage glucose (sugar) levels in the blood. Without insulin, glucose will build up in the blood instead of being used as energy.
The cause of Type 1 diabetes remains unknown: It is not preventable and is usually something someone is born with although it can develop at any time in life. All Type 1 diabetics require insulin which can be delivered through a variety of different methods.
